There are a multitude of reasons people visit a chiropractic specialists. Many people find it necessary to see a chiropractor following a car accident, sports injury, a fall, or if they are experiencing any unexplained pain in their neck, shoulders, back or legs. Chiropractic specialists have also been known to help alleviate pain suffered from chronic migraine headaches that can be caused by misalignments in the spine. Some chiropractors are also certified massage therapists, and patients will frequent their offices for the combined benefits of chiropractic adjustment and the relief a great massage. So what is a chiropractor exactly? A chiropractor is a licensed professional who specializes the nervous system and in the proper alignment and manipulation of the spine. Chiropractic practice is considered an alternative medicine, meaning that a chiropractic specialist is not a medical doctor, but in recent years chiropractics has gained respect in the mainstream medical field as part of a multi-facetted treatment program for pain and disease, and many insurance providers will cover chiropractic treatment. Just because a chiropractor is not a medical doctor does not mean the regulations or requirements for becoming a licensed chiropractor are lax or in any way easy. In order to become a chiropractor, a person must complete 90 hours of undergraduate courses and at least 4,000 hours of instruction in chiropractic education through a chiropractic program at an accredited university or college. After graduation a chiropractic student is still not a licensed chiropractor until he or she sits and passes a state bar exam. It is only after this rigorous exam has been passed that a new practitioner is legally eligible to practice chiropractics. Even then, many chiropractic specialists still choose to continue taking courses and attending chiropractic conferences to stay abreast of the latest chiropractic methods and techniques. Chiropractics is an unusual branch of alternative medicine in that many people find they experience instant relief after even one session with a chiropractor. This makes chiropractics an attractive option for people suffering from various ailments whose alternatives for pain treatment include surgery with lengthy and prolonged recovery periods coupled with medication, physical therapy, and other treatments. Chiropractics is often much less hassle and offers virtually no remission time. Of course more severe problems require more in depth chiropractic treatment and some problems never fully go away, regardless of the treatment method. In such cases chiropractic specialists can simply help patients control back and neck pain, making it manageable and livable.
