Everyone uses hydraulics in every day life, one way or another. Most doors that don't slam shut have a hydraulic tube at the top that stops the door from closing quickly. Fitness equipment is not any different. Many fitness machines use hydraulics to give you a smoother workout.

Hydraulics is used in fitness equipment to add resistance. Resistance is what helps you build strength. If you are using free weights then gravity is your resistance. If you are rowing then it is the water that is your resistance.

When you apply force on the fitness equipment then the hydraulic cylinders add the resistance to challenge your workout routine. Machines that use weights are a lot more difficult to move smoothly and when hydraulic cylinders are added to the equipment it is more challenging when you increase the force.

With so many benefits using hydraulic fitness equipment, people have fun working out. Being able to work out at your own pace rather than with other weight equipment is an important asset. The movement is smoother and you have more control. Not having really sore muscles is a good benefit for children, seniors and women. Also, there is no need to lift weights on or off a machine.

Most gyms are changing their equipment to hydraulic exercise machines because people who are at different levels of fitness can use the same machine and just increase the resistance level. There are typically a variety of machines that focus on certain body parts like legs, arms, shoulders and biceps and other machines used to target particular muscle groups.

There are not many options for consumers when trying to purchase hydraulic fitness equipment for home use but there is one and it is a rowing machine. However, be aware that the quality of a home version is not as good as a regular rowing machine.

Unfortunately, hydraulic fitness equipment has some limitations as well. Sometimes the motion is not as smooth as with other exercise equipment, especially with a pushing or pulling movement. More advanced athletes and body builders will experience the limitation when it comes to the resistance level of the hydraulics. For the average consumer, hydraulic fitness equipment is expensive and not many varieties of machines to choose from for the home.

If you are considering adding strength training to your exercise routine then you should consider using hydraulic fitness equipment to help you achieve your goals. If you want to use hydraulic equipment it is best to join a gym or fitness program that has these available. It can be quite expensive to buy pieces for your home and the options for home use are rather limited.
